D. Joe Chaffin, MD
Dr. Chaffin joined Greeley Pathologists (now Summit Pathology) in August 1999.
Dr. Chaffin is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology as well as in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine. In addition to his role as a general surgical pathologist with Summit Pathology, he serves as Medical Director of Blood Services for North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley and McKee Medical Center in Loveland. He is also an Associate Medical Director for Bonfils Blood Center, Colorado's largest community blood center, and a former laboratory director of LABS, Inc, in Denver. Since 1997, he has been the Transfusion Medicine lecturer for the Osler Institute Pathology Review Course, speaking to several thousand pathology residents and pathologists on basic blood banking. Dr. Chaffin is currently writing an introductory Transfusion Medicine text for national publication.
Dr. Chaffin earned his medical and bachelor's degrees from the Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, CA. Before coming to Colorado, he served in the United States Army for nine years, culminating in a four-year stint as medical director of transfusion and donor services at the Army's largest health care facility, Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.
Dr. Chaffin enjoys spending time with his wife (an accomplished violinist and pianist) and their two children. He is also an aspiring bass player and vocalist.
