I'm going to another facility for a consultation or second opinion. How do I get a copy of my report and slides? Can I pick them up and take them with me?
We are happy to work with you to get your pathology slides and reports to wherever you need them to go. The process starts with a phone call.
It is very important for you to understand that your pathology materials (slides, reports, and paraffin blocks) are our medico-legal responsibility. That doesn't mean that we have to keep them in our possession at all times, but it does mean that we need to keep track of where they are. For that reason, we need a little bit of lead time before we can send your materials to another facility.
Your first step is to call us at (970) 461-6091 and let us know what you need (you may also contact Judy Hettinga or Jill Hatfield by e-mail, though phone calls are preferred). We will ask you where you need your materials to go, when they need to be there, and to whose attention they should be addressed. Once we have that information, we will send your materials to the appropriate location (at our cost). This process has two benefits: First, it will usually get your slides to the place you are going sooner, so that they can be reviewed before you arrive (saving you time in the process), and second, it allows us to track the material better so that we know where the slides are at all times. Again, this is not to make things more difficult for you, but to keep your materials secure for future reference.
We also understand that there are times when plans change, or that you don't find out about an appointment until the last minute, and that as a result you may not have the lead time necessary for us to ship your materials. Please contact us at the above number as soon as you can, and we can prepare your materials for you to pick up at our Skyline facility. This is not our preferred method, but when necessary, it can be done. The bottom line is that we will work with you to ensure that you get the materials you need when you need them.
