I just had a biopsy; how long until I know what it shows?
Summit Pathology processes and interprets the vast majority of specimens within one day.
Your caregiver has entrusted Summit Pathology with your biopsy specimen. We take that responsibility very seriously! As you can see elsewhere on this site, Summit has eight highly trained and experienced pathologists that take great pride in providing accurate and rapid diagnoses, using state-of-the-art processing techniques. In the vast majority of cases, your results will be available within one day of our receiving your biopsy. You should contact your caregiver for those results, as we will send them directly to him or her.
Occasionally, certain biopsies will require extra stains or other procedures in order to establish a diagnosis. When that happens, there may be a slight delay in the availability of your report. In addition, there may be times that due to the complexity or difficulty of a biopsy, Summit may need to forward your case to an outside consultant for consultation. We use world-class consultants when this occurs, and we deliberately choose those that provide accurate and rapid service.
